Our Goal at Chiquibul-Maya Mountains

The main purpose of the Chiquibul-Maya Mountain Project is to develop and implement a comprehensive and integrated sustainable management program for the core conservation areas of the Chiquibul-Maya Mountains Key Biodiversity Area. This is being achieved through the following objectives:

  1. Establishment of an administrative structure for the Chiquibul National Park involving key stakeholders.
  2. Establishment of a viable and integrated sustainable management program for the Chiquibul National Park, involving all key stakeholders.
  3. Reducing illegal incursions in the Chiquibul National Park.
  4. Strengthening of a management program in the Bladen Nature Reserve
  5. Developing and instituting a cooperation building and public awareness strategy focusing on the communities near to and within the core conservation areas.
  6. Promoting bi-national efforts for the conservation of the Chiquibul-Maya Mountains trans-boundary ecosystem.
